A small kitchen is not a compromised kitchen. It is a kitchen where every decision counts twice — and where the difference between frustrating and excellent is measured in centimetres, not in budget.
Start with the working triangle
Sink, hob, fridge. In a small kitchen these three should be close but never crowded, and nothing should open into the path between them. Before anything else, check in the design that the fridge door does not block a drawer and the oven door does not block the walkway.
And leave at least 90 cm of clear worktop between the sink and the hob. That space is what makes cooking comfortable. Extra storage does not compensate for its absence — this is the single most common regret we hear.
Go up, not out
- Use the full wall height. A third upper row stores what you use seasonally.
- But be honest about reach. A shelf you cannot reach without a chair is seasonal storage. Decide that deliberately.
- Tall units beat wide ones in a narrow room — they store more per centimetre of floor.
Fix the corner
The corner is the worst space in any kitchen and the best opportunity in a small one. A rotating corner basket turns dead volume into genuinely usable storage, and it is one of the highest-value accessories we fit.
Choose materials that make the room feel larger
- Tempered glass is the most effective. Reflection widens a room more than any paint colour, and this is the most underrated argument for glass.
- Light gloss acrylic does the same at a lower cost.
- Light above, deeper below — it lifts the room visually and hides wear where hands actually touch.
- Handleless fronts (push-to-open or recessed rails) remove visual interruption and physically reclaim the few centimetres a handle projects into a narrow walkway.
Light it properly
Under-cabinet LED turns the worktop from a shadowed strip into a comfortable work surface. In a small kitchen it is not decoration — it is the cheapest change with the largest effect, and it is what makes a reflective material actually work.
Drawers instead of shelves
This is the biggest practical difference on the list. On a low shelf you bend down and reach into the dark for what is at the back. A drawer brings the whole contents out to you. In a small kitchen, where every cupboard has to work, that alone changes how usable the room feels.
Handleless fronts
Protruding handles break the continuity of the front and make a kitchen read as busier and more cramped. A push-to-open or a recessed grip profile gives an unbroken face — and the room looks calmer and wider.
Built-in appliances
Oven, microwave and dishwasher inside the units free up the worktop, which is the scarcest resource in a small kitchen.
The working wall
Rails and hanging shelves between the upper units and the worktop turn dead wall into storage for the things you use every day — without adding a single cabinet.
Accessories that earn their space
- Full-extension telescopic runners — you see and use the back of every drawer. Roller runners waste a third of each one.
- In-drawer organisers — inexpensive, and they change the daily feel more than any finish.
- An integrated waste bin — it removes the ugliest object from a room that cannot afford clutter.
An L or U layout
| Shape | Best for |
|---|---|
| A single straight run | Very narrow kitchens or galleys |
| L-shaped | The most efficient for small and mid-sized spaces |
| U-shaped | Maximum storage, if the width allows it |
| Two parallel runs | Long narrow kitchens |
Made to measure rather than flat-pack
This is the most important point of all. A flat-pack kitchen comes in standard sizes, so a small room ends up with dead gaps between the units and the walls. A kitchen made to measure uses every centimetre you have — and in a small kitchen those centimetres are the whole difference.
See it before you build it
In a small kitchen a layout mistake cannot be absorbed. This is exactly what the free 3D design is for: we show you the two or three layouts genuinely possible in your room, and you choose while looking rather than imagining.
We serve Riyadh, Al-Ahsa, Buraydah and Hail, with a ten-year written warranty.
