A material does not fail because it gets hot once. It fails because it expands and contracts repeatedly. Compressed timber board moves with every seasonal cycle — and after enough cycles the door edges no longer meet, the hinges lose alignment, and gaps appear that were not there in year one.
Natural timber moves most of all, which is why joinery quality matters far more here than the species of wood.
What we recommend for Buraydah
- Aluminium and saj steel — dimensionally stable across the whole range. Metal does not care what season it is.
- Formica and acrylic — more stable than solid timber, and a sound choice with the right board and 2 mm heat-bonded edges.
- Natural wood — beautiful and entirely possible here, but the joinery must be built around movement: floating panels in grooved frames, proper expansion allowance, and sealed end grain. A rigidly glued panel will crack. Not “might” — will.
